Burberry Clash team project

"Strength and power is what makes a man. I used to be confident and took care of my wife, I had everything under control. Now that I'm waking up in this phantom new world, I realise I'm no longer the man I used to be. This crisis has taken all of my manlihood. I can not live up to my male duties anymore, I'm supposed to provide safety, but it's no longer possible, I have to search to find a new strength. The feminisation here forces me to rediscover my masculinity, masculinity in the traditional way no longer applies. Something's missing, this crisis shows that the male power like I used to know isn't sufficient any longer. The clouds merge and transform into patterns, every sound I hear and every color I see is much more intense, pink and turquoise shapes appear, they overwhelm me. I realise that seeing these shapes unveils something about me, the pink shows me softness and wisdom, the turquoise tells about mindfullness and integration of body and soul. In my old civilization these colors where associated with women and their feminine traits, in this new world I will need them to be the man I want to be. It brings me insight, I can only reclaim my power if I open up to my soft side, I will only be whole when both sides are in balance. By merging the feminine and masculine I will be able to distinguish myself from others and survive in this feminine society."

As a team of five we did research on the 'Burberry' brand and how we could shape the fictive, school appointed streetwear-label 'Burberry Clash'. We created a house check and logo and did research on streetwear. From the WGSN derrivid theme 'Modern Myth' we wrote our own modern myth and created a concept. This was the starting point for our 2D Autumn/Winter 2014-15 menswear collection.
